Peter Metcalfe, the principal of Metcalfe Communications, began a career in publishing, video production, and communications in 1980. Prior to that he commercial fished in the Gulf of Alaska. Metcalfe is a fourth generation Alaskan, whose forbears came to Skagway in 1900. He was born and raised in Juneau.

Metcalfe helps his clients determine their communication needs, understand their options, and make decisions based on realistic budgets. He is recognized for his ability to get jobs completed on time and within budget.

Since 1990, Susan Kraft, an accomplished graphic designer and an award winning fine artist has collaborated with Peter Metcalfe on publication projects. According to the requirements of each job Metcalfe will engage the services of professionals such as photographers, videographers, printers, and mail fulfillment services.

In 2006, Peter Metcalfe received the American Book Award by the Before Columbus Foundation, a national organization of writers and poets, for his book, Gumboot Determination: the Story of the Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium.
